Cage Match: Bare Wires Vs. Adam Lambert

Bare Bare Wires' new LP Seeking Love is out now on Castle Face Records.
Ladies and gentlemen, tonight a battle for your musical soul will be waged here in Houston. In this corner, wearing the failure-colored trunks and sporting a haircut worthy of a wedgie, Adam Lambert at the Hobby Center.

And in this corner, weighing in at 400 lbs, bringing with them all the garage glam that Oakland, Calif., can provide, Bare Wires.

Cue the entrance music...

Rocks Off: Mr. Matthew Melton, you're playing tonight at Rudyard's. Why should Houstonians partake of your musical wares over those of your opponent Mr. Lambert?

Matthew Melton: In contrast to the overproduced world of new music, there's something to be said for the simplicity of the classic power trio. Bare Wires takes you back to when music began with self-propelled song power and crude garage-pop riffs.

No effects, no hype, just three fellows from Oakland, Calif., making a living driving around the country in a van, playing their songs. If you come see Bare Wires as opposed to Adam Lambert, you're going to get the cake as opposed to the icing.

One time we got arrested in Tijuana, but that didn't stop us.

RO: Arrested in Tijuana?

MM: True story. I was the one who had to walk across the border and figure out where they were and get them out. Only 20 bucks per band member! We still made it to our show in San Diego.

Classic Rock and roll will always be more interesting than the overinflated pop star because its real, it's you up there on stage.

RO: Interesting. Mr. Lambert, how do you respond?

Adam Lambert (from "Whataya Want From Me"): "Hey, slow it down! Whataya want from me? Yeah, I'm afraid."

You should be, Mr. Lambert. You definitely should be. Bare Wires is coming for you tonight!

Adam Lambert: With Allison Iraheta, 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hobby Center (Sarofim Hall), 800 Bagby, suite 300, 713-315-2525 or www.thehobbycenter.org.

Bare Wires: With Davey Crockett and the Caprolites, 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rudyard's, 2010 Waugh, 713-521-0521 or myspace.com/rudyards.
