Trae Day Venue Backs Out; Jonas Bros. Reschedule
As we mentioned in last week's cover story, Houston rapper Trae tha Truth has been having his share of recent struggles. His luck appears to not have changed much.
Just hours after the online commercial for the forthcoming Trae Day, July 22, hit the net, and a mere three weeks before the actual event was to take place, the venue where Trae Day was scheduled this year, the parking lot of the old International Ballroom, reneged on their agreement to host it.
According to Trae, this comes after he was not only told he could begin promoting the event, but also after he was instructed to purchase a $2 million insurance policy for it as well.
"You know how many people don't have $15 to get an immunization shot?" asked the clearly flustered and disappointed rapper. "How could you do something like that? This is for the kids. And you're just going to take that away? I honestly don't know how some of these people sleep at night."
Though he doesn't know where yet, Trae asserts that this year's Trae Day will be celebrated somewhere.
Trae Day was established in 2008 by the City of Houston in honor of Trae's philanthropic efforts. This year's celebration will feature free immunizations, HIV testing and school supplies, and a free concert featuring Lupe Fiasco, DJ Khaled, Waka Flocka Flame, Young Buck and more.
In other rescheduling news, the Jonas Brothers moved their date at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion from July 31 to September 11. Tickets already purchased for the original date will be honored at the make-up; more information at livenation.com
