Steve Earle, one of Houston's favorite musical sons, was nominated for an Emmy today for his song "This City," featured in the recent season finale of the HBO series Treme.

Earle, who recently touted Houston's rich history and musical assets on an episode of NPR's World Cafe, wrote "This City" at the suggestion of Treme creator and executive producer David Simon. Earle has appeared in three episodes, including one with his son Justin Townes Earle that also includes a cameo from the Red Headed Stranger.

Earle, whose acting experience includes Simon's previous series The Wire, wrote "This City" from the perspective of his Treme character, a street musician named Harley.

He is currently gearing up for a later summer tour with Electric Hot Tuna. The tour does not include a stop in Houston.
