Rocks Off Seeking Local Bands For New Covers Night
It's been a while since Rocks Off has put on our promoter hat because, well, we've been kind of busy around here, but also because we've been cooking up an idea we think you're all going to like. We hope so, anyway.
As you may have noticed, it's not that easy for artists to sell tickets these days. (Speaking of, Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers announced they've "rescheduled" Saturday's show at Sam Houston Race Park to a date TBD.) For a few years now, several have been sweetening the deal by playing one of their most beloved albums in their entirety, as will happen here this fall when the Pixies do Doolittle, Rush Moving Pictures and Roger Waters revisits Pink Floyd's The Wall.
Rocks Off does not have any classic albums to perform - something for which we should all be grateful - so instead, we've made a deal with Walter's on Washington. One night a month, we're asking two local bands to pick one of their favorite albums, learn the songs and perform them at a free show. We'll also have a DJ spinning while the bands move their gear on and offstage, giveaways for tickets and other prizes and things we haven't even thought of yet.
We've already scheduled the first night for Thursday, August 19. Now all we need are the bands. Please email email@example.com if you'd like to play. Go ahead and tell us the album you'd like to do as well - if it's less than an hour long (which almost all great albums are), you can round out your set with as many originals as you can fit in.
Sorry, no cover or tribute bands please. Nothing personal, but that would be like bringing an AK-47 to a knife fight. By the way, bands - and by "bands" we mean "solo performers" as well - although it is a free show, you will be paid.
