MTV Nominates Trae As "Hottest Breakthrough MC Of 2010"

It appears that Trae's ongoing difficulties with 97.9 The Box - again, you might want to check back here tomorrow; we'd sure appreciate it - are beginning to resonate outside the 713 and 281. Earlier today, MTV.com announced the local rapper and community activist known as "Tha Truth" is a finalist for its Sucker Free program's annual "Hottest Breakthrough MC" competition.

Nominees cannot have released a major-label album before June 21 of this year (which isn't a problem for Trae, since his Tha Truth has been just about to drop for, like, ever) or been named to a previous Sucker Free "Hottest MCs In the Game" list. MTV's reasoning:

Trae might not get much airplay in his hometown of Houston but his music rules the streets - no lie. He currently has the "Inkredible" single with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross and his upcoming album Tha Truth features Jadakiss, the Game, Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, Ross, Wayne, Plies, Scarface and Gorilla Zoe.

Trae's competition includes Big Sean, Curren$y, J. Cole, Dallas' Jay Electronica, the tough-to-beat Nicki Minaj, Nipsey Hussle, Yelawolf and fellow Trae Day performer Wacka Flocka Flame. There are 20 nominees in all.
