Kelly Willis Happy To Leave Kids At Home For Miller Outdoor Show

Kelly Willis, who plays Miller Outdoor Theatre Saturday night with Ray Wylie Hubbard, has four kids and is known to be a doting mother. She and husband Bruce Robison could probably both have much more tour-heavy careers were they not so devoted to raising their kids in a family, non-showbiz atmosphere.

So will Willis be bringing her brood with her tomorrow on the short road trip from Austin?

"No," she writes. "I'm looking forward to my 'break.' That's what all gigs are for me now!"

Asked why she isn't bringing the kids along, Willis notes, "It's a traveling madhouse.

Although we are taking them on some gigs this summer that will double as a vacation."

While Willis and Robison's Christmas holiday shows have become a ritual at Mucky Duck the past few years, Willis hasn't done a band gig in Houston in some time. Her band this trip includes John Ludwick on bass, Andrew Nofziger on guitar, keyboardist Sweeny Tidball, and drummer Eddie Cantu.

As for her association with Chuck Prophet, who produced and played on her last album, Translated From Love, Willis simply writes, "Chuck is brilliant, like no other!"

Something tells LOM that free from the constraints of parenthood, Willis is going to rock the Miller tomorrow night.

7 p.m. Saturday, April 24, Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6000 Golf Course Dr. (Hermann Park) 713-284-8351, www.milleroutdoortheatre.com. Free show.
