Watch Uncle Charlie Silk-Screen A Poster; Listen To Some Prime Dresden 45

​Houston is blessed with an abundance of poster artists: Carlos Hernandez, Dan Castillo, Jason McElweenie, Eli Sebastian Brumbaugh, Summerfest 2010 artist Shane Hillman and, of course, "Uncle" Charlie Hardwick, just to name a few. (If we left you out, please email us some samples of your work.) Like songs and records, the act of making the posters themselves is as much of an art form as the finished product, and one that's a lot more interesting to watch than a guitarist and drummer yelling at each other that they're too loud/off-key/out of time/etc.

Rocks Off became fascinated by silk-screening when we made one in eighth-grade shop class (yes, we took shop), and our dad was so intrigued he started his own screen-printing business, which is still going strong although the Web site is inactive at the moment. Wednesday afternoon, Uncle Charlie emailed us a couple of videos, one that condenses he and Emilee Ausmus making a poster such as the Flogging Molly one at right at Houston's Black Swan Screen Printing into a couple of time-lapse minutes, and the other that follows Charlie around the Flatstock poster convention at SXSW last week.

Even better, the screen-printing video, shot and edited by Brenda Cruz, comes with a soundtrack by Charlie's old band, Houston hardcore pioneers Dresden 45, who recently taught us that searching some bands on Google images can lead to some very... interesting results.
