Robert Plant Plays The Woodlands - Finally - On July 24

Robert Plant remembers Houston. In September 2008, the former Led Zeppelin singer and Allison Krauss were scheduled to play the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion behind their multiple Grammy-winning (and downright spectacular) Raising Sand album, but Hurricane Ike had other ideas, severely damaging the Pavilion and forcing that show and several others to be cancelled. Plant, Krauss and the band led by Raising Sand producer and 2010 Oscar winner T-Bone Burnett donated a portion of the proceeds from their Oklahoma City show to Ike relief.

But this morning, Rounder Records announced that Plant and his Band of Joy will play at the Woodlands on July 24. Krauss, now touring with her band Union Station, won't be along this time, but in her place will be Austin-based singer-songwriter Patty Griffin, who recently released the excellent, gospel-inflected album Downtown Church.

Other musicians in the band include Raising Sand alumnus Buddy Miller, co-producer of Plant and the Band of Joy's forthcoming album, due on Rounder in late summer or early fall; Lonesome Onry and Mean favorite Darrell Scott; and veteran Nashville bassist Byron House, who has appeared on albums by everyone from Dolly Parton and the Del McCoury Band to Amy Grant and former Catatonia front woman Cerys Matthews.

Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster, but no on-sale date has been announced.
