How Popular Is Our Washington Shore Idea? It's Already Being Ripped Off

Washington Avenue: Where the lines are long and the tow trucks are hungry.

​Don't be fooled by this Web site. Rocks Off is not organizing a pub crawl on Washington Avenue. The only thing we have lined up for our readers is the Washington Shore party tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

Let Rocks Off be the first to say now that between the three weeks he spent on the street doing research for his feature on the nightlife down there - read it and weep, right here - and his other (cough) extracurricular activities, Washington Avenue took more out of him than he ever could have imagined.

We got wind of this pub crawl a few days back while finishing our feature and were pleasantly flattered but a little miffed that someone had taken our idea as their own. The pub crawl is for a good cause, benefiting the devastated country of Haiti as its citizens recover from January's earthquake. It's a noble enterprise, even if they sorta ripped our name.

...and this was a slow night.

Rocks Off partially blames himself for tweeting out the phrase "Washington Shore" in late December, thus entering it into the public lexicon. We were merely trying to test the waters for the party while the idea was still in its early infancy. Our party takes a drastically irony-laced view of the street, while this pub crawl seeks to take ownership, sort of like they are embracing the avenue's grime and glitz.
Believe us when we say that there is more of the latter than anything else. We are still trying to get the tequila scent out of our blazer. Each receipt we find from a bar on the street is like a nail in our coffin. At least Lola's only accepts cash, thus negating any paper trail.
