Dave Matthews Band Returns to Houston September 10

Well, there you have it. All Dave's many fans out there can start counting down to next Friday, when tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. through www.livenation.com, Ticketmaster (apparently that merger is working out) or by phone at 800-745-3000. Everyone else can go about your business.
Occasional exceptions like "Don't Drink the Water" aside, Rocks Off has never been able to get terribly excited about the DMB, but we do have to commend them for their choice of opening act: Austin soul renegades Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, featuring former Houstonian Ian Varley (Drop Trio) on keyboards. If Matthews isn't careful, even his band's famously febrile live show - which has rung up an astounding 17 million tickets sold over the group's career - will seem tepid next to Black Joe and friends, who also play Walter's on Washington April 2.
