Congratulations to Houston singer-songwriter Lee Alexander, whose Mayhaw Vaudeville was selected as one of 2009's best under-the-radar albums by Lee Zimmerman of Houston Press sister paper Miami New Times' music blog Crossfade. In fact, it was the first one listed by Zimmerman, who said the album "provides a perfect example of an emotionally-charged returned to archetypical sensibilities."

Rocks Off can vouch for just how under the radar Mayhaw is, because we'd never heard of the album until Alexander emailed us this weekend alerting us to the Crossfade post. Ah well, can't catch everything. But you can download the album for free (sort of) here, and/or hear some Mayhaw songs in person when Alexander plays Rudyard's January 30 with Arthur Yoria and Pete Simple.
