It's no secret that sometimes
Rocks Off likes to rag on Houston's, ahem, "New Rock Alternative," 94.5 FM The Buzz - let's see, according to
www.yes.com, last hour the station played Green Day's "Longview," Foo Fighters' "My Hero," Pearl Jam's "Even Flow" and U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"... yep, that says "New Rock" to us. We try to be fair, though, so we're willing to cut the Buzz some slack (not much) for giving local bands at least a little bit of airplay via the
Texas Buzz program, which now airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m.
Sunday, Texas Buzz announced the nominees for this year's Texas Buzz Awards, scheduled for December 27 at
Scout Bar. Rocks Off was happy to see that several of our own harder-edged Houston favorites made the list, especially in the Best Alternative Band category, where locals
American Fangs,
Peekaboo Theory,
The Last Place You Look and
Windsor Drive are set to slug it out with Austin's Eyes Burn Electric, formerly Dremnt the End.

Elsewhere, baby-faced Houston heshers
Metavenge picked up a nomination for Best Metal Band and Best New Band (alongside positivity-touting rockers
Versecity), while American Fangs, TLPYL and Houston's
From Guts to Glory are all up for Band of the Year.
Longtime local alt-rock/dance fixtures
The Hunger, FGTG and TLPYL were all nominated for Best Live Performance, as well as several individual instrumental awards. See a complete list and vote for your favorites on
Texas Buzz' Web page. Voting continues through midnight next Monday, December 21.
