Ladies and gentlemen, Rocks Off doesn't mind telling you he feels a little dirty after editing that last Britney Spears post. We swear, we ourselves have never, ever rubbed one out to the cover art of Oops... I Did It Again
- we just wish we knew why we always have such a hard time getting the damn CD case to open. We have some serious atoning to do, and we haven't even gotten around to posting our slideshow of penis album covers or our list of upcoming singles even more inappropriate than noted water-sports enthusiast R. Kelly's current hit "Number One."
Luckily, the Blind Boys of Alabama are in town tonight at House of Blues. Formed in 1939, the Blind Boys have testified all over the world and accumulated several trophy cases' worth of hardware, including four Grammy awards, while sharing stages with everyone from Ben Harper to Prince. Rocks Off cannot recommend them highly enough - we saw them at the Austin City Limits festival a year or two ago when, out of nowhere, they broke into the theme song from The Andy Griffith Show
. It was transcendent.
Speaking of TV, you heathens might recognize the Blind Boys from their cover of Tom Waits' "Down In the Hole" - God, even that sounds dirty now - which HBO used as the opening music to Season 1 of The Wire
. Round up three of your fellow sinners and you can get a four-pack of tickets for $60, which is a better deal than you'll get at any collection plate. We'll see you there, provided we don't get sidetracked by the new issue of Hustler
between now and then. You never know.
Now if you'll excuse us, we have to take a Facebook quiz to find out what stripper song we are.
7 p.m. tonight at House of Blues, 1204 Caroline, 888-402-5837 or www.hob.com/houston.
