You know Soledad. He's the vocalist from controversial Houston rap-metal act Daylight Coma. He's got a lot to say. Sometimes it's insightful, sometimes less so, but it's almost always said with conviction. This week, we asked him about the King of Pop's death.
You're welcome to express your disdain with his opinions in the comment section. We're fairly certain he'll respond to you personally. He may even call you something unflattering. Fingers crossed.
Rocks Off: Well, we suppose Michael seems like a good place to start this column. How'd you feel about that whole situation?
Soledad: First and foremost, my condolences to his family. Death of a love is never a good thing. Even though some have labeled it as a homecoming celebration, it's still very painful.
Now, moving forward, Michael Jackson was the "King of Pop," not the "King of Immortality." Like every other person that walks this green earth - well, maybe not so green anymore do to multi- billion dollar corporate developments; bastards! - we all are gonna die. Either we enter the light or darkness by natural causes [like] David "Sgt. Tackleberry" Graf from
Police Academy, a tragic accident [like] Brandon Lee from
The Crow, a violent act [like] Tupac Shakur, an incurable disease [like] Arthur Ashe or, in Michael Jackson's case, a drug overdose.
Yes, world, our icon was a drug addict like "Pokey" from
New Jack City, and you know that only leads to one thing without professional help. It's said in the entertainment business that "If you run with the dragon, eventually you will get burned." Well, with the help of Dr. Conrad Murray, that is exactly what happened.
RO: Didn't it seem like everyone just sort of forgot how evil Michael possibly/probably/likely was?
S: It's like all high-profile celebrities; these die-hard brainwashed fans of theirs consider them mightier than Jesus. The Bible clearly declares that many will be lead astray by false idols and false messiahs. Let us not forget the many sexual accusations made against him, which some he handled out of court because he knew if it had went trial his true identity would be exposed.
Don't be "Bamboozled" by the entire marriage to Lisa Marie Presely or the semen implantations to Debbie Rowe. I mean, WTF, if [you're] straight and wanna make kids, why not encounter that sexual pleasure while creating a gift called life?
RO: Is that fair? The whole "forgetting what kind of person he may have been" thing, not the semen thing.S: Is it fair that a well-known ex-felon artist [T.I.] got caught with machine guns and silencers, yet [was sentenced] to only serve one year in prison, knowing that's a 25-to-life mandatory conviction? Money is power in these times that we live in. A lot of us will cry wolf against Michael's dark side, but his musical legacy will outshine all opinions. I mean, Martin Luther King Jr. had a mistress at one time, but that will never be damaging to his "I Have Dream" speech.
RO: So when a musician dies, should we be allowed to grieve the professional side of him without taking into account the personal?
S: In a perfect world, we should be able to grieve a musician's professional side, because you want to honor that art. But seriously, who do you know that's 360 degrees perfect? Surely not Michael Jackson; he didn't even wanna be BLACK!
Also, after his career started taking a downward spiral, no one was wondering where's his next hit record was, it was more like when is his next scandal coming to light. All the public had to hold on to was his personal life.
