MP3 of the Day: Sean Reefer & the Resin Valley Boys

reeferposter.jpg
As if Wednesday night's drunken, surly and bearded Clutch show wasn't enough for the House Of Blues staff, tonight they get to rassle with the musical stylings of one David Allan Coe, openers 1100 Springs and Sean Reefer & The Resin Valley Boys.

Long a fixture on the Houston honky-tonk scene, Reefer and the Resins' odes to marijuana, cocaine, whiskey, pills and No-Doz are the stuff of local legend. Never before have we encountered such a weed-tastic group of pickers since that old red-headed dude with the funky-smelling bus that is somehow fueled by corn juice.

Have a listen at "Texas Hill Country and see if you don't agree.

The Resin Valley Boys are lead singer/guitarist Sean Raiford, flourishing folk upstart Geoffrey Muller, drummer Patrick "Beans" Wheeler from Ryan Scroggins & the Trenchtown Texans, plus Will Golden and Jack Shultz on bass and steel guitar.

Just Reefer and 1100 Springs by themselves any night of the week at Continental Club would be enough to put us under the bar before Letterman, but adding the acidic and hilarious roots country of Coe is borderline disturbing. It's almost as if Live Nation and the Houston Police Department concocted this bill as some cruel gimmick to track Outer Loop drunks and stoners on their way home, baited by the promise of hearing Coe's "Fuckin' in the Butt."

As they say out down 288, keep it between the ditches folks. Ah hell, we are sure there are plenty of dry ones around here for anyone to pass out in. Just don't wake us, we gotta make deadline.
