Tonight: Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie at Discovery Green

Categories: Playbill

Discovery Green's spring concert series, which begins tonight, should be as warm as the weather with Creole wildman Geno Delafose. Known for his "French rockin' boogie" - both his style and the name of his backing band - Delafose's latest album, Le Cowboy Creole, was nominated for a 2009 Best Cajun/Zydeco Recording Grammy, the first year those two genres received a separate category.

Raised in the heart of Cajun country near Eunice, Louisiana, Delafose is second-generation zydeco royalty, having begun his musical career playing rubboard in his father John's famous band, the Eunice Playboys. Today, the smooth-voiced Delafose splits his time between touring and the family ranch outside Eunice.

No Johnny-Come-Lately, Delafose embodies all the greatest traditions of Cajun and Crole music as well as its underlying rural sense of values. If tonight's crowd gets large enough, the Discovery Green groundskeepers may have to lay new turf tomorrow after all the dancing that will undoubtedly go on.

6:30 p.m. at Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney, 713-400-7336 or www.discoverygreen.com.
