I wrote this song in memory of Poodie:
That Very Sad Sixth Day Of May (At Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse)
I'd hitchhiked to Poodie's to play
For a fun Wednesday night open mic
At Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse on the sixth day of May
Was where I'd heard the news that he'd died
That was such a very sad time
With the look in Brooks' eyes which were glazed
I think that he'd wanted to cry
A quiet moment of remembrance we paid
CHORUS:
On that very sad sixth day of May
A quiet moment of remembrance we paid
At the place where there's no bad days
On that very sad sixth day of May
Bridge:
At the place where there's no bad days
Nobody knew exactly what to say
Me, I just hitchhiked away
On that very sad sixth day of May
CHORUS

My heartfelt condolences to the relatives, friends and The Family.I had the pleasure of Poodie’s friendship for over 35 years, he will be missed by all. A true legend in his own time. I hope there mucho BBQ & music in Heaven for you Poodie!

My Thoughts and Prayers are with the Family. When thinking about Poodie, so many thoughts come to mind that bring a smile (and often an out loud chuckle) to my face in these saddest of times. Things like "Welcome to Bangkok, Pookie". He left a Legacy on this earth and in the hearts of so many. I will miss you, greatly. You were dear to me & I Love you, Baby Boy.
P.S. Poodie, hug the neck of Hoss Boss for me.

This was in a Nashville blog....
If you have ever been to a Willie Nelson concert ,you would have seen Poodie....he was Willie's Stage-Production Mgr...One hell of a great Guy...hell...he was several great guys rolled into one big cantankerous Teddy Bear....he passed on yesterday and I had a dream of him last night...I saw him as he approached the golden gates ..and there was St.Peter waiting for him with a golden tablet and pen in his hands....he welcomed him to heaven and handed him the golden tablet and pen...and he said to Poodie........"Can you get Willie to sign this ."?

Heartfelt condolences go out to Poodies family and friends. All the times I ran into him he always had a smile and warm greeting. To be sure his job was not easy but his love of people and music seemed to make it look easy.As with all the Willie clan he connected with the locals and was a gracious Texas ambassador.

Posted On: Tuesday, Jun. 30 2009 @ 1:44AMI must have had my head in the sand and am so sad to hear of Poodie's passing (2 months later).
I can't say anything more than others have posted - Poodie was a very special person - warm, friendly, and dedicated to Willie & Family. I knew him off & on from about 1976-86. He ran the stage like nobody's business ! But he did it with a certain grace & charm.
He embodied the word "Texan". He was simply the best.
Thanks for the memories Poodie !
Posted On: Wednesday, Jul. 15 2009 @ 11:27AMPoodro- What can i say my friend other than- "Spread the fuck out big boy- Me and Jules will see you on the otherside". In the words of Jamey Johnson-"Our new life begins with death, lead me home". Poodro, Jesus went to prepare a place for those who believed in him and I know you did. We don't have to be perfect to be loved and protected and forgiven by his unbounding grace. Me and Jules miss you so much already. Shaye-gro, please call us we luv you and miss you. So sorry our life has been turned upside down and we couldn't make it to be there for his memorial, funeral and to support you and mama and the rest of the family.
