Colorado traditional Celtic duo the Muses will play a free show Wednesday, May 27, on the plaza in front of the main branch of the Houston Public Library (500 McKinney) at 6 p.m.
"Whiskey River" author Johnny Bush will play this weekend's official grand opening of Padre's, the Marfa bar recently opened by former Houstonian and current Marfa City Councilman David Beebe.
The Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston, which withstood serious damage during Hurricane Ike, had even more when a main pillar gave way last week (right). Owner Wrecks Bell was forced to move his Guy Clark show to the club next door, but says the Old Quarter will be open for Saturday's Bob Dylan birthday tribute featuring Vince Bell, David Fahl, Matt Harlan, Opie Hendrix and more. Proceeds benefit the Galveston Island Humane Society; pay what you wish.
Katy Perry, who was too sick to play House of Blues Tuesday but not to appear on American Idol Wednesday, has rescheduled (for now, anyway) for August 3 at Verizon Wireless Theater. All tickets for Tuesday, as well as the show she postponed in March, will be honored; additional tickets go on sale 5 p.m. Friday at www.livenation.com.
