Happy Epiphany, Everybody

"We Three Kings," a la Guitar Hero

Time to take down that tree, y'all: Today is Epiphany, or Twelfth Night, the official end of the Christmas season. (It actually ended at midnight, so exhale... you made it.) Epiphany commemorates the arrival of the three wise men - or, in later translations of the Bible, the "three wiseguys" - to Bethlehem to pay homage to the manger-bound Christ child. Epiphany also celebrates other events in Jesus' adolecence, chiefly his baptism in the Jordan River by cousin John the Baptist, and in Louisiana marks the beginning of Mardi Gras season.

Epiphany has given the church several well-known hymns, starting with "We Three Kings." Others include "Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us," "Come Thou Almighty King," "Fairest Lord Jesus" and "The Church's One Foundation." - Chris Gray
