Turning the Screw: G.R.I.T. Boys, Scarface, Lil Wayne, The Kanye, Jay-Z, Shawty Lo, Superhead, Serius Jones and More

Welcome back to Turning the Screw, Rocks Off's weekly rap post. It probably won't rhyme, at least most of the time. E-mail tips to introducingliston@gmail.com. Thanks, homies.

Single of the Week: G.R.I.T. Boys, "One Night Stand"

Wire To Wire

scarface suit.jpgScarface's latest - and, apparently, last - album, Emeritus, is out tomorrow. Buy it, and buy it hard.

Weezy just announced that he'll be in town December 18 at Toyota Center, with Keyshia Cole, Gym Class Heroes and Keri Hilson.

If you haven't yet, check out The Kanye's latest, 808s & Heartbreak. While some reviewers are proclaiming West's fourth LP a failure, we happen to think it's quite dope. We also own a black leather jacket. We're edgy and in-your-face like that.

From Styles P: Hey, you, rapper who keeps referencing your "swag," you're a d-bag.

Hosea Thomas, the man accused of killing T.I.'s personal assistant, was found guilty. We'll refrain from the obligatory "Man, even rappers' assistants are in danger of being shot" and "How gangster can someone be if they have an assistant?" jokes.

Please, please, please let this be true: Jay-Z to perform at Obama's inauguration.

Got AIDS? No worries, South Africa's finest DJs are on the case.

Shawty Lo says "ice grillin'" was the cause of a scuffle between his and T.I.'s troops. Apparently, "ice grillin'" is an easier, less confusing way to say, "They were staring at me." Feel free to use that term without restraint.

R. Kelly's nephew, son of Kelly's estranged brother Carey, has been accused of murder, which begs the question: How screwed up do you have to be to have R. Kelly turn his back on you?

karrine_steffans.jpgWait, wait, wait. Karrine Steffans (right) got upset when people ask her demeaning questions about her past? The same Karrine Steffans widely known as "Superhead" because of her MFS (Mad Fellating Skills)? Ugh. You're free to make your own Paul Wall/perpetuating stereotypes joke.

We know that Serius Jones's recording career didn't take off like he would've liked, but we've always been a fan, so this interview was interesting. If you're unfamiliar with Serius, watch any of these battle videos from YouTube. And since we're on the subject, check out Math too. Oh, and Iron Solomon's cool also.

ribith & z-ro.jpg

In "Hey, That's Kinda Funny" news: One night, while out on tour as the Nightfly, we met a girl named Ribith (above right, with Z-Ro) and her "PR" guy. He tried to pitch us on how we should write about Ribith's status as some sort of Houston MySpace queen; a bootleg Tila Tequila, if you will. So when we were checking out Serius Jones' Myspace page while researching the previous news bit, we chuckled upon seeing Ribith in Jones' Top 20. See the glory that is Ribith here.

Oh, and Scarface's latest - and, apparently, last - album, Emeritus, is out tomorrow. Buy it, and buy it hard.

Three Pointers
