Digitalia: iTunes' Top Holiday Songs

Categories: Digitalia

ipodchristmas.jpgThe holiday season is a time to enjoy favorite pastimes like expanding your credit-card debt, eating way too much food, and arguing with your relatives. And of course, there's the best staple of them all: butchering holiday jingles. Never finding a song they didn't want to shill, iTunes offers an extensive holiday collection ready to aid you in your quest to be merry and croon.

The Freebies (because you know you love free stuff)

Faith Hill, "O Holy Night": Taken from her new Christmas album, Joy to the World, Faith offers a pretty standard cover of the Christmas gem. It doesn't wow you, but it's free.

Brian McKnight, "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" The ghost of R&B's past gives a big-band spin to the Andy Williams classic.

Keyshia Cole, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

Pay Up

Keyshia Cole, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas": With a voice like Cole's, one would expect a bit more oomph. Here's to hoping she doesn't perform this underwhelming cover next week when she opens for Lil' Wayne.

Pretenders, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas": If taking a cheerful song and turning it into something melancholy is your thing, you'll love this.

Taylor-Swift-b03.jpgTaylor Swift (right), "Last Christmas" In the single from her holiday release, Swift coos over a jerk that took her heart for Christmas then donated it to Goodwill. Your little sister should feel her pain.

Stephen Colbert, "Can I Interest You In Hanukkah?": Shout-out to our Jewish readers. Mazel tov!

Enya, "And Winter Came": It's certainly not "Frosty the Snowman," but the Irish singer gets bonus points for originality for her holiday-themed set.

Wham!, "Last Christmas": Hey, it's in the iTunes Top 20 - someone's buying it. Besides, aren't the '80s important again?

Dean Martin, "Baby, It's Cold Outside" (above): It's a classic. It must be included. Ditto for Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song."

Mariah Carey, "All I Want For Christmas" Oh come off it. You've sung alone at least once. It's way too popular for you have not to. - Michael Arceneaux
