Venue Shuffle: Rise Against, Tek9 Cancel; Alkaline Trio, Thrice Moved to House of Blues
Rise Against in 2004
So here's what we've got. Strident Chicago quartet Rise Against, whose new Appeal to Reason (Interscope) wasn't greeted quite as rapturously as Against Me!'s New Wave last year but is still one of 2008's notable punk releases, has canceled its show and the Verizon Wireless Theater tonight because singer Tim McIlrath has lost his voice. Refunds are available at point of purchase.
The other two bands on tonight's scheduled Verizon bill, fellow socially conscious Chicagoland punks Alkaline Trio and uncompromising Orange County riff factory Thrice, has been moved to House of Blues. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are $17, available at the box office (1204 Caroline), by phone at 888-40-BLUES or www.ticketmaster.com. Please note this is a completely separate show, and tickets to tonight's original Verizon show are no good.
The odd man out in all this is Tek9, whose HOB show scheduled for tonight has been cancelled outright. Again, refunds available at point of purchase. No reason was given, which means the Kansas City rapper sold fewer tickets than the opening weekend of the new Edward Norton-Colin Farrell cop drama Pride and Glory. - Chris Gray
