Turning the Screw: Bun B and Q-Tip Team Up, Jennifer Hudson, Ludacris, T-Pain, G-Unit, MF Doom, Cypress Hill and More

Welcome back to Turning the Screw, Rocks Off's weekly rap post. It probably won’t rhyme, at least most of the time. E-mail tips to introducingliston@gmail.com. Thanks, homies.

(Video) Single of the Week: Hurricane Chris, Knaan, Bun B and Q-Tip, "Cypher Round 1": The first two guys are rather unremarkable – it is funny to see someone rap about fish and a pilgrimage, though - but the transition from Bun to Tip is dope.

Wire To Wire

Here’s a round-up and rundown of the whole Jennifer Hudson situation. For those who may not have heard, her mother and brother were shot and killed and her nephew is now missing. Horrible stuff.

We’ve never been terribly big Ludacris fans, but we’re kinda looking forward to Theater of the Mind.

If you’ve never read Jason Whitlock before - he’s mostly a sports writer, but occasionally goes out of his way to criticize hip-hop - you should definitely check him out. Here, he may or may not have indirectly called Sarah Palin urophiliac.

Apple and Hyundai are teaming up to offer a T-Pain car. Apparently, it’s going to come with three computers, an iPod touch, iPhone and will become super-shit annoying after you drive it for two days.

Lyfe Jennings was arrested in Georgia. To our surprise, it was not because of how horrible The Phoenix was.

50 Cent and Eminem have a forthcoming song titled “Norman Bates Motel.” We’ll reserve any snarky comments until we hear it.

YoungBuck-03-big.jpg

Speaking of G-Unit, Young Buck’s new album is going to sell a million copies in one week, guaranteed. (Or so he says.) Not really a TtS-worthy topic in itself, considering we think Buck's music is terrible, but it gives a chance to relive this clip of him crying on the phone while he asks 50 to allow him back in G-Unit.

The new issue of Blender has a cool article chronicling cars and hip-hop and whatnot. Blender is like our ex-girlfriend; sometimes we hate the shit out of her, other times we only kinda hate her.

MF Doom, hip-hop’s masked menace, talks briefly about accusations that he’s enlisted imposters to live perform his shows for him.

Cypress Hill is getting sued by '70s soul man Syl Johnson for illegal sampling to the tune of $29 million. To paraphrase Tim Robbins, Syl might as well have sued them for a gabillion-jillion dollars.

We heard Q-Tip’s The Renaissance last week. It’s dope. The often grammatically incorrect Hip-hop DX has some snippets of the radio interview.

Three Pointers

Three CDs out this week you otherwise never would have heard of (but are available on amazon.com nonetheless):
