True to its name, Sian Alice Group’s debut album 59.59, which came out early this year on the Social Registry, clocks in at just under an hour and marvels in the cold contours of time and space. But if the four- to six-piece London ensemble comes off cerebral at first, there are enough smoldering vibes and unexpected tangents to balance so many careful interludes and other strict exercises in length and structure.

"The Dusk Line"

Having arrived on the heels of the little-heard The Dusk Line EP and “Nightsong” 7-inch, 59.59 may have turned heads primarily because it features cameos by members of Spiritualized, Gang Gang Dance, and even the Jesus and Mary Chain. Anyone who stuck around a bit longer noticed the group’s coolly organic bland of classical, jazz, pop, and avant-garde, though Sian Ahern’s translucent singing has earned as many nods to shoegaze as multi-instrumentalists Ben Crook and Rupert Clervaux’s dreamy way with atmosphere. - Doug Wallen

With A Place to Bury Strangers and Ringo Deathstarr, 8 p.m. tonight at Walter's on Washington, 4215 Washington, 713-862-2513.
