In the Shade: The McKenzies

The McKenzies put on an energetic show, but somewhere where the group's vocals meet its music, things fall short. There's nothing pulling us in. The crowd around seemed to accept them, but many were just letting them provide the background music for their own discussions. There's a point where vocals should take over and make fans want to sing a-long even if they don't know the words. You know, where you try to mouth the the lyrics and hope nobody will notice you don't actually know them. (Read: Us whenever we see The Wild Moccasins.) The keyboard work is a little too simple and may prove more interesting if a few more notes were played instead of just dragging out the same three or four.
