We hope you do every week, but please pick up an actual paper copy of the Press this week and take a gander at the 2008 Houston Press Music Awards ballot on page 50, all nice and official and shiny hot pink. Almost 150 nominees in 35 categories, plus write-ins for Best New Club, Live Music Venue, Record Store, Instrument/Equipment Store, Radio Station, Local Music Radio Program and Local Label. This city must be doing something right.

All right, all right, you caught us. You can also find a copy of the ballot online here. Of course you can; this is 2008, after all, but sometimes we get nostalgic. Sue us. Voting ends July 27.

Nominees in the major categories after the jump. Congratulations and good luck to everyone. - Chris Gray

man, the new bands i always fall for NEVER get nominated... like antarctica starts here, inner lights and the mckenzies.

suppose i am just lame

Lots of good nominees even though, as always, there are great overlooked bands I'll agree with Sara that the Mckenzies and Anarctica are pretty great). But I guess that's what happens in a big a talent pool as Houston.

But here is my question. The Local Musician of the Year category? How are the bands a musician? Honestly, it's a brain twister.

Chris Gray says:

Consider it amended to Musician(s) of the Year.

Whew, OK my life can move on! ;)

Serrano says:

I gotta vouch for the superfriends of hip-hop, H.I.S.D. Their album (The District) is super dope. Also, Lower Life Form, Kay, and the one man band Without A Face, all deserve a head nod.

Jen says:

Whew! Thank the lord we dodged that bullet (again)!!

Of course bands will get overlooked. Even more reason to promote the hell out of them - and make sure they get "written in". "Write In" votes rock.

On a side note, totally pumped for the kids of The Tontons. Nominated for best female vocalist, best new band/act and album of the year. Good luck guys!

Hey Serrano, I appreciate the props! Thanks!
Despite the fact that I've been gigging heavily for
the last 2 months I think it'll still be awhile before I get nominated. Who knows though, maybe a year or two from now I'll be on the ballot.
