I finally got around to checking out the entertainment line-up at Discovery Green, and tonight's offering really caught my eye.
Basically, it's a showdown between two New Orleans-style brass band with Houston ties. In this corner you've got...
...the Voodoo Brass Band, local youngsters affiliated with some members of New Orleans innovators the Soul Rebels Brass Band. I caught 'em at Bohemeo's a few weeks back. Good stuff. Here is their Myspace:

In the other corner, you've got the New Birth Brass Band, post-Katrina regulars at Under the Volcano, Sammy's, St. Pete's Dancing Marlin, and Dan Electro's. In this video, they performed one of the first concerts of New Orleans music anywhere, here at Sammy's, just days after Katrina, while some of them were still laying their heads in the Astrodome:
