But his past weekend, Shins keyboardist Martin Crandall was arrested for roughing up his girlfriend. He was booked for felony domestic violence and spent two days in jail. His lady friend, a finalist on the first season of America’s Next Top Model, was also booked for the same offense. The case was dismissed earlier today for lack of evidence.
The band's label, Sub Pop, released this statement yesterday: “Marty Crandall and his ex-girlfriend Elyse Sewell were both arrested over the weekend following an argument at a Sacramento hotel, which resulted in hotel staff calling the police. They were both taken into police custody and released over the weekend. There will be no further comment at this time, and we would appreciate their privacy being respected.”
I think this is awful. If there can be a "best part," it's that it all occurred at a Motel 6 in Sacramento. You get nominated for a Grammy and you still end up getting woken up by Tom Bodett. How's that for humbling?
I have plenty of first-hand experience with the law at various Motel 6 locations. There was that unfortunate 2006 incident with a Hilary Duff magazine and leather monkey mask in Austin. I just finished up my probation out there. That Cub Scout troop had no sense of humor whatsoever. But we all learned a valuable lesson as to why the pool closes at 10 p.m. – Craig Hlavaty
