This Just In: Rap Summit at U of H Tonight

Categories: This Just In
There should be some lively debate at U of H in a few hours as Pimp C, Lil Flip, Trae, M-1 of politically charged East Coast rappers Dead Prez and several others gather to discuss a subject broached recently by everyone from Don Imus to Tavis Smiley: “Is Hip-Hop Responsible for the Destruction of the Black Community? If Not, Who Is?”

Also on the panel are activists and academics including Quanell X, Jasmine Pope of TSU’s Student Government Organization and University of Pittsburgh professor Dr. Nicole Assata Richards; Scarface was supposed to be there, but ran into flight delays heading back to Houston from New York.

The panel, presented by the Sankofa Pan-African Student Organization, New Black Panther Party and the Black Student Network, starts at 7 p.m. in the Houston Room in the University Center. The Preps & Gents from Yates High School will provide pre-show entertainment, and Robert Hodge and the Yates Photography Program will have an exhibit of their works as well. Admission is free. – Chris Gray
