Slightly Stoopid

Categories: Playbill

Slightly Stoopid's dual frontmen Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald have been friends since they were one and two years old and have been playing music since their midteens. In 1995, they caught the ear of late Sublime vocalist Bradley Nowell, who signed them to his own Skunk Records label. Joined by drummer Ryan Moran and percussionist Oguer Ocon, the duo recorded their first two albums on the label before moving on to Surfdog Records in 2003 for its Everything You Need release. The group describes its sound as "a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop and punk." The band tours relentlessly, putting on nearly 200 shows a year opening for such acts as The Marley Brothers, Sublime, The Roots, G-Love and Special Sauce, Blink 182, Toots and the Maytals, N.E.R.D, Pennywise, and The Vans Warped Tour. Currently headlining in support of their latest release Closer to the Sun, the band has been gaining legions of new fans, while also wowing critics. Now in its 11th year, Slightly Stoopid is that rare breed of band that has remained true to its roots, as diverse as those may be. — James Bolen

Slightly Stoopid performs Wednesday, November 29, at Verizon Wireless Theater, 520 Texas. Call 713-230-1600 for more info.
