Houstonians come out to protest conditions in Venezuela.
Times are hard in Venezuela. Crime is rampant, there's no toilet tissue (really), and inflation is through the roof.

Days of violent protests have turned the country's capital inside out.

Venezuelans throughout Texas gathered this week to protest after opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez turned himself in to authorities on terrorism charges. There were large protests here in Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio.

[PHOTOS] Mayweather, Canelo Make Appearance at Minute Maid to Promote Fight

photos by Marco Torres
Boxing fans of Houston lined up all the way around Minute Maid Park on Monday, July 1, for a chance to see boxing superstars Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez as they promoted the fight nicknamed "The One," which will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 14. Mayweather, eight-time and five-division world champion, has selected the undefeated Mexican boxing sensation as his opponent for the super welterweight mega-bout.

Golden Boy Promotions president and Houston Dynamo part owner Oscar De La Hoya was on hand to host the press conference. The fighters are on an 11-city tour that includes Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix and Los Angeles. The Phoenix stop was canceled out of respect for the 19 fallen firefighters who died battling the Yarnell Hill Wild Fire, and De La Hoya announced that a large monetary donation and other support will be provided to the families of the deceased.

Although many in the boxing world would have rather seen Mayweather match up with Filipino world champion Manny Pacquiao, this fight between the "Money" team and the rising Mexican superstar will no doubt be one of the most watched matches in the sport's history.

(L-R) Octagóncito and Lizmark Jr. will showcase their lucha skills this Friday at the Bayou Music Center.

According to my research -- which I guess began 25 years ago on the streets of the Mexican border town of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, when I was playing with "Santos" toys that my mom bought me -- Lucha Libre is awesome. What is essentially a telenovela with more punching, flying, muscles and masks rolls into town this Friday as the Lucha Libre USA Masked Warriors Tour makes a stop at the Bayou Music Center. I spoke to two of these Masked Warriors at the only place in Houston that I deemed worthy of their presence: El Gran Malo (2307 Ella Boulevard).

Hair Balls: Señores, Bienvenidos a Houston!

Masked Warriors: Gracias, mucho gusto.

HB: Is this your first time here in the Space City?

Lizmark: We both visited Houston back in 1998, or 1999, while we fought with the WCW (World Championship Wrestling). We fought in the Astrodome, which was really cool.
