SEC Network, Texas A&M Coming to Comcast, Houston. Fans Continue to Wait on CSN, Rockets, Astros

Aggies will be on the air in Houston this fall.
The good news: Aggies fans will get to watch A&M football on Comcast this upcoming fall. The bad news: CSN Houston is still ONLY on Comcast.

Not to be a negative nelly, but it does seem rather ridiculous that games for both Texas A&M (SEC Network) will be available to the vast majority of Houstonians, while two of our professional sports teams are visible to only about 40 percent of the city (oh, and the colleges that are in Houston -- UH, Rice -- get their coverage on CSN Houston as well). The Longhorn Network, which was a debacle from day one, is still not on Comcast, but is on most of the other major providers including AT&T U-Verse and Dish Network.

Obviously, the SEC Network is a large, national network backed by ESPN and not a regional sports network that covers a very narrow area, and I get that college football, particularly one of the most popular in the state, means ratings, but let's just review that again...the games for two professional sports franchises (three if you count the Dynamo) and two local colleges won't be visible to 40 percent of the city, but Aggies football will be available to everyone. That's just stupid.

As my colleague, John Royal, pointed out this week, there may be an end in sight, but it is far from certain. There are even some indications that the current state of affairs could devolve even further, if that's possible, leaving us in indefinite limbo when it comes to seeing the Rockets or Astros on TV.

We are not alone in this struggle. Other cities have suffered and continue to suffer with the same fate. Still, it doesn't make it any less of a bitter pill to swallow, particularly when you realize the SEC, a division of college sports containing only ONE team with a direct tie to Texas, is going to be broadcast freely throughout the region.

I'm happy for the Aggies and their fans, but sports fans should be even more annoyed with the entities involved in the CSN nightmare by this announcement. I know I am.
