Keep Texas Cheerleader Kendall Jones's Hunting Pics on Facebook!

We are adamantly opposed to the movement to remove a Texas Tech cheerleader's Facebook pics showing her posing next to exotic animals she killed with her trusty bow and arrow.

Kendall Jones has sparked outrage after she posted pics of her showing off a lion, leopard, rhino, zebra, and other animals she dispatched in Africa. We defy the petitions to erase her visage for a number of reasons, but the main one is this: it helps to have photographic evidence of people being jerks.

Why would anyone want to conceal proof of someone's awful behavior? We believe it is tremendously helpful to have the 19-year-old's own statements clearly stated on the record. Statements such as: "As badly as I wanted to shoot something I was just too small to hold the guns my dad had brought."

It's terrific that Jones tells us that she "harvested" an elephant -- she "finished it off" with her dad's ".470 Nitro Express." It's extra-good that she informs us that she was "lucky enough to have all of my hunting adventures professionally videoed and put onto DVD."

Jones' goal is to land a series on the Sportsman Channel, and some news accounts already have her achieving this, but the Washington Post reports that a Sportsman spokesman "was not able to confirm that the show is in the works."

At first, we thought that maybe that was because this is a hoax. After all, while Jones' Facebook public figure page has become the subject of international media attention, she's barely been interviewed, and so far we aren't aware of any interviews of her friends, family members, or classmates. We held out hope that maybe this was some sort of performance art.

But then we saw that her hometown paper, the Cleburn Times-Review, claimed to have interviewed her. Reporter Matt Smith writes: "'I knew when I posted these pictures that there would be people for and against my Facebook page,' Jones said via email from Africa on Thursday. 'I really am shocked at how rude many people are by name calling and swearing. I have actually had several death threats, which are going to be investigated."

And then we found this 2010 thread for Texashuntingforum.com, with a beaming 15-year-old Jones crouched by a dead rhino. Our hope was finally extinguished.

We know there are awful people out there -- we write about them all the time. And it's better to bring them out into the light. Petitions like the ones against Jones will only succeed in driving douchiness underground, where it not be combated, and, hopefully, one day defeated.

Just find out what her various contact methods and tell her directly. Let her feel how much people really despise such a spoiled brat bow head from po-dunk Texas....

The fact that people waste any time debating this is ridiculous. ..it's her choice many people fought and died for her to have it..just as it's your choice to chose not to look at it.

Freedom for all

Why are they trying to impose their personal opinion on what is OK to everybody else?

She’s not done anything illegal.

If those who want to ban the pictures think that what you see shouldn’t happen they should fight to change the law but don’t harass a kid instead just because you don’t have the courage or the numbers to change the law.

I personally don’t like the photos neither but I value freedom more than my personal preferences.

I don’t like when a small number of random people try to take out the freedom of people by determining themselves what can be posted or done based on their personal opinions.

What is next? Will you try to ban my kids from posting a picture eating a hamburger because you are vegetarian and you don’t like it ?

Oh the ignorance of the HoustonPress knows no bounds.

There is no skill in having a tracker and guide take you to the animals so you can aim your bow.

I hate what she's doing, but if it's not illegal...this is the USA, and we have the freedom to express ourselves.

Is this behavior you want to encourage by supporting it though? She is killing endangered species!

Have you seen where nuggets come from? Now that's disgusting! Think of all the poor animals raised in terrible conditions in order to feed hungry people who don't even think twice about where their food is coming from. And do you know what kind of skill it takes to kill a wild animal with a bow?? I think that's an amazing achievement.

Someone should put her in a lions cage with out a gun. Let's see if she would sit still for another photo.

Thrill killing is a documented sign of mental illness. Killing an animal for survival or in defense is one thing. Killing for fun is a sickness. Her parents nurtured that illness and now fund a way for her to act out those horrific fantasies. Would you be against someone posting pictures of tortured and killed pets? Would you use the same free speech argument then? These animals, many of them near endangered, were slaughtered for a thrill kill and then exploited for a TV deal. When she's done killing for fun she goes back and shakes it for the boys to get even more attention. This girl has issues. Anyone who supports her needs to rethink their moral compass. Anyone who shares her depraved obsession with killing for fun needs to seek professional help.

Love and respect for Life. If its legal it doesn't mean it's right. That's what history has taught us.

Pretty on the outside doesn't mean pretty on the inside as evidenced.

Needless hunting for recreational purposes is stupid and engaging in the destruction of a species for pride or prize is getting old. Many of us know that and whether she knows it or not, trying to impose our beliefs and harrassing her for hers is the same as hunting her down to cage her like an animal. People should leave her alone. Her dad is obviously a biggot and nothing will change unless he changes first and we know "that ain't happenin' ya'll"

Being at the top of the food chain doesn't mean you're able to kill anything that stands. It means being able to survive and avoid get eaten. Humans are able to do that because we're capable of reasoning beyond the ability of any other animals. So, let's do some reasoning!

Censorship is bad, even when the people/things that are being censored are terrible. Let her keep her pics and comments up, so future employers can see them.

The Rhino wasn't a kill. It was just tranquilized and she posed in the picture with it. And as sad as it is seeing the pictures of so many animals they were all hunted legally and is just one more way rich people go out and waste their money on. (Rich white people problems. Getting backlash on spending thousands of dollars to kill an exotic animal.)

Spot on, Clinton Bertrand. I would add wildlife management to that list as well. Sometimes animals need to be culled, and trusted hunters are the most reliable free resource our Parks & Wildlife departments have. I've been around trophy hunters all my life, always found it weird.

Where did she shoot the White Rhino? Was it a Northern or Southern White Rhino? NWR only have 4 remaining in Garamba National Park and those were moved from the Dvůr Králové zoo in the Czech Republic back in 2008/2009 in an effort to save the animals. They need open space to breed, very difficult to get these large mammals to breed in zoos. Only 3-5 babies have been born in 3 decades of captivity. SWR have a 20K population confined to protected areas and private ranches. SWR were thought to be extinct about 100 years ago, until a small population of less than 100 individuals was discovered in South Africa in 1895. She must have shot one on a private ranch. She shouldn't be proud of that. If these private ranches have an increased population, then they should have some of the breeding females moved to other protected areas to continue the conservation efforts. She isn't doing anything to conserve those animals. They are heavily poached for their horns, where they are used for medicines and aphrodisiacs in Asia.

If you fear the backlash from your actions...Don't post the pics in a public forum. It's her business if she wants to trophy hunt.. She made it everyone else's posting it on FB...For the record..Don't kill it unless you're going to eat it or it's going to eat you..

This is so wrong, killing those beautiful animals is so wrong, instead to protect them we kill them, big shame for her. Ask your self are you still on the same level of intelligence with yours ancestors or you feel more or maybe less intelligent?

How bout everybody just mine their own businesses. How would like if someone came and told you how to spend your money. Man as a species has been hunting these animals for ages. It's why we are at the top of the food chain.

why doesnt she just block certain people from seeing them? i mean its kind of weird about her posing so she should respect peoples feelings..

These are canned hunts...as in the animal is placed in a cage and they get to kill it.
