Katy Teacher/Coach Arrested, Allegedly Had Sex With Student
Teachers in some districts are getting paid pretty well these days (well, compared with your entry-level journalist --- we don't have to get into the whole "whose job is more important" issue here; we think we know the answer). So why lose a job for hitting on students?
Katy teacher lived the life of a college baller.
That's the alleged case this week, since news has come out that a Morton Ranch High School teacher left his job in May following a letter about an alleged affair he carried on with a 17-year-old student.
The teacher in question, who was arrested Wednesday on a charge of improper relationship with a student, according to court documents is Daimon Lawrence Sweet, 44, of Katy.
According to KHOU-TV, Sweet was a former college basketball player who had joined the Dallas Mavericks for a while.
Here's the full text of an email sent to Katy parents on Wednesday:
"This morning, school administration learned that a former Morton Ranch High School history teacher and boys' interim basketball coach was arrested by Katy ISD Police for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with one of our students during his time of employment with the District. The teacher is being charged with a second-degree felony for improper relationship between educator and student.
"This investigation was prompted by an anonymous letter delivered to a Morton Ranch High School administrator on May 15 alleging an improper relationship between the 44 year-old teacher and a 17-year-old female student. The teacher resigned immediately on May 19.
"Providing a safe and secure learning environment is our top priority, and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure the safety of our students.
