Handguns Are the Weapon of Choice for Gangs, Says Study of Houston Arms
For whatever reason, researchers in Geneva, Switzerland paired Houston with Los Angeles in a list of guns linked to gang activities or seized from gang members. While L.A. is the bigger city, where do you think they confiscated the most guns?

If you said H-Town, then you're not mistaken. The study, brought to our attention by the Houston Chronicle, is actually focused on international movements of arms and how those weapons are used for violence within conflict zones and against women.
The US, you see, if one of the top exporters of small arms and light weapons, followed by Italy, Germany, Brazil. It's a 4.63 billion business, according to data presented in the report, called "Small Arms Survey 2014: Women and guns".
The study showed that between 2007 and 2012 a total of 782 weapons linked to gang activity were confiscated in the Bayou City. The largest contingent came from semi-automatic handguns (464) and revolvers (142). Shotguns, followed by semi-automatic rifles were the next highest on the list, with fewer than 100 of each.
Compared with L.A., nearly half as many semi-automatic handguns were found, but with a slight uptick in the number of revolvers. All in, L.A. had 457 total firearms confiscated from gangs. This either means, their police work is shabbier than here in Houston, or gang bangers out there know how to stash their weapons better. We don't know. Of course, if could just mean local gangstas just like guns more, but we doubt that.
Here's a look at the list:
