Metro Really Wants Bus Riding to Be Cool in New Transit Refix
If you already don't ride Metro buses, then Metro wants you to think again. Then come back in five years, because riding buses in the city will be awesome.

Today, the group's board unveiled a plan that they say will increase ridership and make taking buses the quick, hip way to get around (not sure if they said "hip," but who doesn't want bus-riding to be cool?), instead of the depressing-wait-in-the-hot-sun thing it is today.
And thanks for paying for it, because as Metro says:
"While the plan is based on current resources, it is also designed to be the framework for future growth as METRO receives more sales tax revenue for bus service under the 2012 referendum."
That's right, and a frequently traveled network that will have transit coming through to scoop you up every 15 minutes. That's right, take that NYC -- every 15 minutes, a Houstonian will be hopping on a bus. The

Service frequency was key in developing the better network. Right now, less than 30 percent of METRO riders have access to routes that run at least every 15 minutes seven days a week system. Under the draft plan, the number increases to 73 percent.
Under the reimagined plan, frequent service means a bus every 15 minutes or better, 15 hours a day, seven days a week. The draft plan also includes simpler, straighter routes, updated route numbering to help customers better navigate the system and better maps.
Metro is convincing in their explanation of the redesign, and all we can for is that with this in play (along with those smooth rental bikes and better, safer bike lanes), Houston will indeed be a city for the future.
