Houston Dogs Hate Postal Workers
In advance of National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which we all know kicks off May 18, the United States Postal Service has released statistics showing that Houston had 63 dog attacks on postal workers in 2013, out of a total of 5,581 attacks.
So how can you prevent your dog from going all Cujo on the letter carrier? The USPS asks owners to "keep your dog inside, away from the door, in another room, or on a leash."
Does that house even have a mailbox?
The USPS also notes that "dogs can be protective of their territory and may interpret the actions of letter carriers as a threat. Please take precautions when accepting mail in the presence of your pet." (This isn't an official USPS suggestion, but it may be a good idea to show your dog that the postal carrier is friendly by humping his or her leg.)
According to KPRC, Dallas and Fort Worth were the next-closest Texas cities on the list, coming in with 45 and 26 dog attacks respectively.
