Special Olympics and Jolly Jesters: Top Five Things to Do in Houston Sports This Weekend
I'm back! Did you miss me? Don't run from your feelings! This is the place to come if you want to find out what the flip there is to do/watch when it comes to sports in the fine city of Houston, Texas. And for those of you Yankees who might visit this here website for info, don't be surprised when there isn't a bunch of calf ropin' and pig chasin' on this list. Unfortunately, there's nothing like that happening around here...this weekend.
What? Mardi Gras drinking is a sport!
But, if you are into sports, there might just be something on here to your liking. Now, get out there you big tub of goo and work off that bacon you choked down this morning.
5. Men's College Basketball: UH vs. UCF
Saturday, 2 p.m.
It's not quite March Madness, but we are inching ever closer, so if you are in the mood for some college hoops, head over to perpetually empty Hofeinz Pavilion on the UH campus to catch the Coogs versus conference rival UCF Knights. The truth is, even if neither team is particularly great in the grand scheme of things, you couldn't beat them, so get over there and enjoy some action that makes you wish you had worked out harder in high school.
4. Galveston Mardis Gras Jolly Jester Jaunt 5K-ish
Saturday, 11 a.m.
In case you were unaware, Mardis Gras is upon us and though New Orleans is the center of the Mardis Gras universe, we have a nice little party happening every year in Galveston. To help kick off the drunken revelry, the folks who put together the celebration are hosting a 5k(ish) gallop -- not run -- through the streets of downtown Galveston Saturday morning. Complimentary beverages will be served with your entry and you may even bring a pony pogo stick should you so choose. But don't start flashing your boobs for beads until it gets dark out. Think of the children. Tally ho!
