Metro Police Chief Victor Rodriguez: Another Top Cop in Car Crash

Categories: Traffic
Our traffic tip of the day: If you see a local police chief behind the wheel of an oncoming car, duck.

Last month it was Houston police chief Charles McClelland ramming a pedestrian, an incident which earned him a one-day suspension. (Getting caught in the act on video didn't help much.)

Now it's Metro chief Victor Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was headed to a store, off-duty but in a Metro car, about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when trouble began.

According to the police report on the incident, Rodriguez failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of Bogey Way and Scarsdale Boulevard on the south side of town. That caused the other vehicle to hit him, sending that driver to the hospital with injuries from his airbag.

Rodriguez was in a 2014 Explorer, the other driver in a 1998 Ford Contour, which hardly seems a fair match-up.

Metro spokesperson Margaret O'Brien Molina tells Hair Balls "our Safety Department is currently conducting a review of the accident."
