Having to ride a bus is bad enough, and then some guy throws a knife into the mix. A Westside High School freshman was cut with a knife Thursday morning when he helped fight off a man who was allegedly trying to abduct another student, according to a release issued by HISD.

Police believe the suspect, Cecil Keith McClenan Jr., 52, and the student he was attempting to abduct are related. The suspect was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon when he walked into Westside High School, according to the release.

The incident, described by eyewitnesses to KHOU as a stabbing, occurred around 6:30 a.m. at a bus stop located at Waldemar and Bentworth.

According to witnesses, McClenan approached a female Westside High School senior at the bus stop wearing a mask. He then attempted to force her to leave with him. An HISD school bus arrived during the incident, and the driver sounded the horn and drove toward McClenan in an attempt to make him stop, according to the release. At the same time, a 14-year-old male Westside student intervened and forced McClenan to let go of the female student. The male student was cut on his arm in the process. McClenan then fled on foot.

The HISD bus driver radioed to his dispatcher, who summoned Houston police and an ambulance. The male student was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the release. HISD has notified parents of the incident, and police will be closely monitoring the bus stop. Criminal charges are pending review by the Harris County District Attorney's Office, according to the release.

McClenan surrendered to HISD police at Westside High School on Thursday afternoon. McClenan is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the release.
