What the Hell? 17 Inches of Snow in Amarillo? (w/Video)

Aptly named.
We're not saying a lot of people have travel plans that take them to Amarillo, but if they did, today is a hell of a day to avoid the Panhandle.

Amarillo is getting hit with a blizzard that is dropping 17 inches of snow in some places. That, no doubt, is a big ol' blizzard.

Everything's basically closed up there because of the weather, which is expected to be the second-largest snow event in the city's history and which is featuring wind gusts of 75 mph. (That's Cat 1-hurricane level.)

Governor Rick Perry has announced a bevy of state actions to help those in what his office calls an "alarming" storm.

"As this blizzard makes its way through the panhandle and conditions warrant, we will continue to push state resources to the area to assist impacted communities," Perry said. "Visibility in many places is quickly deteriorating, and I urge all Texans in the storm's path to remain vigilant and heed warnings from local officials. As always, Texas is thankful for the brave men and women who stand ready to respond to events that place their fellow Texans in harm's way."

This video shows clearly why, if you happened to be in Amarillo, you should stay the hell inside:

600 miles apart and almost as far from open water ... Should we expect similar weather?
