Frankie MacDonald, YouTube Weatherman from Canada, Warns of Severe Weather in HOUUUUUSTON, Texas Today (with Video)

Categories: Weather

Sweet lava lamp, Frankie!
As I mentioned on Monday, the Houston area is in for some wet, potentially severe weather, today and Wednesday thanks to a cool front moving into the area and stirring up showers and thunderstorms ahead of it.

The rain should persist all day today and into Wednesday afternoon, with the worst of it likely coming after midnight Wednesday morning. Rainfall totals are expected to be two to four inches, with some areas of five to seven inches possible. The entire area is under a flash flood watch and that will probably change to a warning by this evening.

Fortunately, we not only have our local meteorologists on the job, but Frankie MacDonald, who is something of an Internet sensation with his gregarious YouTube videos warning of severe weather in various locations. This week, Houston was fortunate enough to be in MacDonald's crosshairs.

The young Canadian posted the video "Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Houston Texas on January 8, 2013" to YouTube and in it encourages Houstonians to be prepared by charging phones, unplugging electronics, staying away from windows and retreating to our basements for safety. He even suggests we order pizza and Chinese food and stock up on cases of "pop" just in case.

The video has already garnered more than 26,000 views, most probably thanks to the numerous shares it's received on Facebook.

Thanks for the warning, Frankie! We don't really have basements here, and in Texas we call every brand of soda "Coke" just because, but we appreciate your concern. We'll be careful.

I am Canadian from Montreal but I do not do that, is he ok? he screams the same info over & over again, I wonder why!! but Thanx for your concern, I am in Houston and the weather is rainy still but no thunder or extreme cases as he mention....this is kinda a propaganda .... anyway...

I just alerted my flight attendant coworkers know about the powerful thunderstorm.  THANKS FRANKIE!!!!!! Frank Billingsley got nothing on you!

I realize this is an older message, but Frankie is autistic. He happens to be really passionate about the weather, and has a great ability to compile a lot of information around the web and prepare his own reports. He is often more accurate than Environment Canada. I wouldn't say there's anything 'wrong' with him. He uploads his videos and they go viral because he's Frankie. He's also from Cape Breton so has a lot of those affectations in his speech.
