Plea falls on deaf ears.
A former Cypress resident with an impressive drug-trafficking business told a judge at his sentencing, "I deserve mercy," but got more than 15 years in prison.

John Callen Jr., 52, moved to Michigan after a 2003 raid at what prosecutors called his "upscale Cypress home," but eventually pleaded guilty to distribution and conspiracy charges.

The raid discovered 14 kilos of coke, one kilo of heroin, 14 marijuana plants and almost $250,000 in cash.

Prosecutors didn't say what the reasons behind Callen's plea for mercy were; maybe it involved an eventual donation of almost $250,000 to the Red Cross -- a donation that would have been made if those damn meddling feds hadn't gotten involved and we hope you're happy, Mr. Federal Government.

U.S. District Judge Melinda Harmon ordered Callen to serve 188 months in prison, forfeit the home and $400,000, and then -- cherry on the sundae -- pay a $5,000 fine.
