Sarah Tressler Gets a New Reporting Job

Covering tornadoes.
Rumors were swirling this morning that Sarah Tressler, the former Houston Chronicle society reporter who semi-publicly blogged about her stripper life, had gotten a gig with Good Morning America, the only media outlet she's given an interview to.

We asked a GMA spokesperson about the version we heard -- that Tressler had been hired as a producer -- and she responded, "I highly doubt it but will ask."

We haven't heard back yet, but CultureMap's society writer Shelby Hodge -- who used to do at least one of the jobs Tressler had -- has confirmed that the fired Chron writer is doing contract work for GMA covering the Dallas tornadoes.

"A friend, who has been in contact with Tressler, says that this contract work could possibly lead to a more permanent position with the network," Hodge writes.

We still think Tressler ends up with a book or movie deal, or both. And more power to her. We can't agree with the decision not to tell her straitlaced newspaper about her online life as they were considering her for that oh-so-sensitive beat, but we hope she succeeds in getting the most out of her situation.

Why would an educated woman with employment choices work as a topless dancer if she dislikes the things that come with the territory enough to keep a blog about them?

Her job description is to parade around with exposed nipples to attract attention/people, then give intimate dances using same exposed nipples to those she has attracted for cash. A titty-dancer blogging to complain about her nipples' treatment preferences is like a hairdresser bitching there's hair on the cutting floor. Why would anyone read about this?

She just sounds like a man-hater, taking the big cash hauls while complaining, when she could well be working elsewhere with her education. The conservatism of the Chronicle never really factored in it if you ask me, I just don't care for her style..

With the state of journalism today, it's doubtful if the Chronicle ever paid her as much as she makes in one evening of lap-dancing. I get that rag every morning so I can read the funnies on the crapper, but if it gets any thinner, the usually-late paper "boy" won't be able to fling it to the curb.

Does anyone remember Tiger handheld games?  I always thought they were pretty cool.  I loved Double Dragon II but it was so damned hard to play.

The people saying "just leave her alone already" should just stop reading the stories. The less clicks, the less readers, the less likely they will continue to update us.

Gross.  A producer?  Not likely.  A contract job for tornado coverage?  Stupid.  She has the freedom to do whatever she pleases.  However, if GMA decides to take on someone that is so disturbingly narcicistic and disgraceful...then, I have lost all respect.  These women intrude on the lives of others and in my eyes they are no better than a thug or thief!  We all know how to dance sensually and most women are just as attractive, if not more - less the trash factor.  Real women who embody any sense of self worth choose not to sell their body, much less display it for men to degrade and fondle.  She's pretty disgusting in most of the stories on her blog (most of them she deleted last week) and she speaks of the manner with which the men behave.  If these women so often speak of the disrespect - why are they so quick to defend the industry when being insulted?  The standard reaction is comical.  Either stick to your original story (its gross, the men suck, you laugh at them, you take their money while laughing, you bleed on their slacks, you don't wash you hands...blah, blah, blah) or completely defend your livelyhood of proudly spreading your legs for the spitting spinach man so that you can purchase your Lysol, tampons and blueberry bagels, because its what you love to do.  Ugh.

Hmm all the same, are HP going to follow her around all her future jobs?  I'd call that stalking actually.  So she messed up and likely you lot cost her her job at the Chronicle, but you don't really have the right to watch her from now on.  I am a little concerned about the type of things the 'press' in general get away with these days.  It's a pretty fine line between this and violating someone's privacy and civil liberties.  My own opinion is that there is a widespread issue where the press have come to view themselves as a level of 'police', and pontificating to us all on what is 'morally acceptable'.  Not condoning what she did or how she lives her life, just saying maybe it's time to leave it alone.

Please, all of you, stop making more of this idiotic story than it is.  Chick doesn't understand future ramifications of current decisions, newspaper reports the story (the horror!),  chick responds with aplomb, sometimes under a veil of anonymity, of the purported unrighteous nature of said reporting all the while chick only has herself to blame.

"Rumors were swirling this morning..." Where were these rumors swirling? Was it at the Haters' Club, 1621 Milam Street, Suite 100, Richard's cubicle (don't forget the donuts)?

"We asked a GMA spokesperson about the version we heard -- that Tressler had been hired as a producer -- and she responded 'I highly doubt it but will ask.'...we hope she succeeds in getting the most out of her situation." Then stop harassing anyone who tries to give her a job in journalism.

"'A friend, who has been in contact with Tressler, says that this contract work could possibly lead to a more permanent position with the network," Hodge writes.'" Rank speculation by A. Friend, who also likes to goes by A. Nonymous. Perhaps A. Friend could speculate on an even better position for Tressler so that the Press can harass GMA/ABC into denying it and making sure it never comes to fruition.

By the way, is Tressler still being naive? HB should give her some advice - should she secret every job she has in the future or perhaps changer her name so that Connelly can move on to something more engaging like the puff/keep-it-in-the-headlines piece, "Sarah Tressler: 5 Strippers That Did Fine (NSFW)," by Jef-With-One-F.

Man, this really is beyond the pale.

Oh for the love of Christ, just leave this woman alone. How many more "updates" do we need? I know the Press is desperate for page clicks when hated rival CultureMap is quoted as a credible source.

No, this is terrible! What is she gave a lapdance to a Dallas tornado last night?!?

Imagine the awkward little song and dance when the tornado sees her walk in, the "Don't I know you from somewhere oh shit" moment, it would go through. And then Tressler has to pretend nothing that happened the night before at the club actually happened as she reports on the tornado!

This is important to think about because it is a realistic journalistic scenario that could actually happen!

How does a stripper intrude on the lives of others? Its not like they ride around on bicycles and knock on your door so they can strip for you. People chose to go in to a strip club, they aren't forced to go.

If you monitor the monitors, what does that make you?

Seriously, it makes sense to find out that she (allegedly) got something so quickly -- by the same news outlet she calculated her exclusive with! Broadcast media (on-air "talent," anyway) and strippers, I mean society reporters, have so much in common, anyway--it would appear.

It wouldn't surprise me if this 'poor woman' has sent Richard flowers for his generous exposure, and entree to GMA. You really don't get reality, do you Thursday Girl?

Oh hush... this is the best thing that has happened to this woman. She's loving it... She may have lost a job, but sounds like she's already gained another, even better, job. Plus you know there's gonna be a Lifetime movie in the works.

Almost cute, but if you are trying to contend that it is some kind of freakish near-impossibility that Tressler would run into the society men she was supposed to gush about in strip clubs, you are sadly mistaken.

mamoeh78
mamoeh78

Sure, the person walks through the door - I didn't say they were not responsible for their part.  But strippers are hired to dance within the confinements of an establishment for income, right?  That's where the line should be drawn, correct?  Otherwise, it's not being a stripper and perhaps they cross the lines of performing outside of their boundaries.   When they begin pursuing their patrons by requesting gifts, seeking them out in the real world and begging for gifts and money....that is invading!  I suppose you know all the rules and that strippers follow them?  Get real.  Strippers don't leave their work at the cheap brass doors...its a steady flow of "gimme gimme!"

Poorly written, Lomax.  I can't tell from your sentence whether or not Tressler was supposed to be gushing about society men in strip clubs or if she's running into society men in strip clubs that she would later have to gush about [in her former job expositively reporting on who/what/when/where/why social events].

I guess it doesn't matter, as both scenarios are far less likely than someone who is not a stripper recognizing those society men in strip clubs and then telling Connelly about it so HB can get another scoop.

Every society needs a consensual marketplace for sex. Why do you have to call strippers whores? They are just going to where the money is, and doing whatever it takes, consensually, to earn it. No harm, no foul. Unless they're society reporters.

Poor Duce.  Really trying hard to defend something that will never be respected.  Give it up.  Strippers are whores and they always will be.  Hmm...what are you asking?  Patrons beg strippers for money?  I'm confused.  Do you mean they beg for sex?  Please tell.

So, you're making a generalization. Got it. What about the patrons who do the same thing?

Like Toyota being reported on recently for having faulty brakes/accelerators?Guess their not a 'major advertiser'?

H_e_x

Not about the big stuff they don't. A bad bar review won't hurt anyone, but a major advertiser on a big network might be stopped.I know, I know, journalists and editorial boards are paragons of ethics, but, like most humans, have weaknesses, such as advertising money.

Yes, criticize the grammar, because potential conflicts of interest are so easy to name... it would make annoying look downright thick, rather than just an illiterate gadfly.

Feel free to point out the indepenent clauses I should have separated with punctuation. I couldn't find them. I see several dependent clauses, but no independent clauses.  Unlike Lomax, I also didn't see any moral clauses.

What's that? It's the Internet version of the mosquito buzzing in the ear, the dog barking inanely through a long sleepless night, the platoon of leaf-blowing gardeners, the sudden rainstorm on a family picnic that is "Annoying," the most aptly named poster ever.
