Comment of the Day: Gun Culture Gets Creepy

We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it's time we paid some damn attention to them.

So we'll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day's work. Maybe two comments, even.

This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.

We did some debunking on the latest anti-gun control meme, one that says George Washington wants you to take up arms against the government.

It ignited a debate, and one gun-lover said he sometimes gets worried about his colleagues.

I'm so sick of the gun culture of this country. It's got to change. I grew up around guns, my dad was/is an avid hunter and I hunted myself as a boy; I'm not one who is prone to paranoid hysteria around firearms. But this militant craziness is beyond the pale. We live in a country with free elections for crying out loud. If you start reaching for your gun every time your guy loses on election day, you're a crazy moron. Go ahead and keep a gun for self-defense. If you like to hunt, by all means, go for it; I'm a meat eater, and I try not to be a hyprocrite about it. But all this high-minded talk about armed revolution is bullshit. I think 99% of these idiots are actually cowards who are too afraid to fire the first shot and would rather keep up the windy talk so somebody else will.

Some people talk the talk and others walk the walk.

Um...sorry, but I would not call myself a "gun-lover." I'll acknowledge that perhaps my opinion was not expressed with enough clarity. I do not own a firearm. I grew up with them, and I have no particular fear of them, but I do not possess one. But thanks for the shout-out.
