Houston: Only Two U.S. Cities Have More Dangerous Drivers

As you head out for your commute, keep this cheery thought in mind: You are about to hand your life over to some of the most dangerous people around: other Houstonian drivers.

Space City drivers are the third-most dangerous in the nation, according to another one of those pseudoscientific studies by Men's Health, who at least didn't call us fat and polluted this time.

The only places where it's even more risky are Dallas and, worst of the worst, St. Louis.

Men's Health looked at 100 U.S. cities. Here's the criteria:

We tabulated the rate of fatal crashes; the percentage of fatalities involving alcohol, speeding, or hit and run; and the rate of seatbelt use (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Then we factored in the average number of years between accidents (Allstate) and laws on cellphone use while driving (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and city governments).

Houston gets a big, fat F, as did Austin.

The safest city was St. Paul, Minnesota. Coming in at number three was Boston, and we've driven in Boston and we can only call BS on that one.

FBT is EXACTLY right. One word why this stinking city is worst. ILLEGALS! You take the million or so illegals off the road and I gurantee you things would improve immensly. Now I know all you bleeding hearts will want to argue semantics regarding how many and whom blah, blah but as always you would be wrong.

Nobody drives the speed limit, people either drive 20 miles per hour too slow or too fast... fix that and I think it fixes the problem.

I wonder what states have real driver's ed. You know, where you're actually instructed on how to drive and the rules of the road, as opposed to mom or dad taking out a few times to parallel park and taking the written test until you pass. And nevermind which states keep raising the speed limits.

Guess, what Houston...check the attitude!!  As should most Native Texans.  Your driving is the 3rd most dangerous as a State and the city of Houston also ranks 3rd, as far as cities.  You people blame non-natives, illegals, etc..  Rubbish, as most dangerous driving Texans are natives, have the "Jesus Fish" on the back of the vehicle, etc..  Inconsiderate, rude, lack all manner of common sense, respect and road law/rules knowledge.  My husband and I often comment that the South has more Churches and less Christian like behavior.  Disgusting.Adopt manners, common sense, respect for your fellow citizen, PROPER driving and maybe you will come close to being a great city/state.

Finally, Dallas get it's due.  I lived and drove in that city for several years and recognized the imminent (and insurance) risks while driving there.  That said, H-town drivers are only marginally better...possibly because I'm driving here now.

It's really simple Houston. Stop on red and use your turn signals! I shouldn't have to replace the fuse for my horn every year if you'd follow these simple rules.

Wonder how many of these bad drivers have a valid Texas Driver License, current vehicle registration and/or inspection and real insurance?  And, wonder how many are actually from here?  Yeah, I said it ... bring-it beatches!!!

You're right about people being shitty drivers here. But shitty drivers are everywhere. I was going to write a rap about confirmation bias, but I'm not sure you know what that is, so I won't bother.

"You people?"  Whoa there, Nellie.  Check your own attitude before being critical of others.  That's how road-rage gets started!

I find Dallas roads to be confusing as hell. One minute you're driving on the road, the next you're on an elevated road with a traffic light. What the hell is going on?

 "Turn signals? What are those?"

^^The reaction from the majority of Houstonians to your comment.^^

You said something on the internet, then instructed others to "bring-it." Lookout, guys, we've got ourselves a real badass over here
