JR Vezain, Bareback Riding
True cowboys are hard to find, but not at the Houston Rodeo. Life on the road leads them here this time every year for the biggest rodeo in the world, where they'll ride and wrangle livestock for cash and glory. Each day, Hair Balls will spotlight one person with enough dirt on his boots to call himself a cowboy -- and mean it.

Name: JR Vezain
Age: 20
Hometown: Cowley, Wyoming
Event: Bareback Riding

This is my first time at Rodeo Houston. It might be my new favorite, especially with the $50,000 [laughs]. San Antone is one of my other favorites -- it's just one of those where your motor gets running when you step behind the bucking chutes. I also like San Juan Capistrano because I'd never been out there and there's big money.

My favorite part about rodeoing is, first of all, I love to do it. You get to make a living doing what you love. I don't have a boss. You get to come to places like this and other places all over the country, Canada, and, shoot, all over the world. Even though we compete against each other, we're all family.

When I'm not rodeoing, I train colts and build saddles in Wyoming. My uncle and I kind of have a name in that part of the country, so we can be busy as we want to be or we can be riding horses, which is what I'm usually doing whenever I'm home. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I also go to school in Casper, Wyoming. I'm a sophomore and I'm studying ag business.

I'm the oldest in my family. I've got twin sisters and a little brother. I'm the only one that rodeos. It wouldn't surprise me if my brother got into rodeo, but it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.
