5 Replacements for The Jim Rome Show

Jim Rome = Not Burning in Houston.
Jim Rome is done in the Houston sports-talk radio market after KILT-AM 610 dropped the popular The Jim Rome Show last week.

Rome's show had become more than a little tedious in recent years, so replacing it should be easy; here are five replacements that would make for riveting programming in Rome's vacated three-hour hole.

5. 106: A Pitch-by-Pitch Breakdown of the Astros' 2011 Season
Can't recall how, during Houston's shutout loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on April 29, Carlos Lee took Shaun Marcum's first pitch for a strike in the bottom of the fourth? You will now.

4. Hear Me Roar: Fireside Chats with UH Men's Basketball Fans
The announced crowd at the Coogs' home win on December 30 against Texas State was 3,081, but from the looks of it, there were maybe 200 people at Hofheinz. It's been like that all season, so tracking down a couple hundred people to interview should be easy. The only problem with this show is that it will exhaust all of its sources by spring.

3. The Astrodome: Love It or Leave It?
A comprehensive examination of the state of the Astrodome and how its future can enhance our daily lives. The program will feature exciting interviews with Harris County officials, former groundskeepers and Aramark Corporation hot-dog vendors. (By the way, there's always this idea.)

2. When the Clock Strikes Zero: How to Cope With the Texans' 2011-2012 Late-Season Collapse
Folks aren't going to know what to do with themselves after the Texans complete the face-flop on Saturday during the franchise's first-ever playoff game. Or maybe the misery will be postponed for another week?

1. Shopping Smack-Off: The Best of Jim Rome's Fine Line of Endorsed Products
You didn't always hear low-brow endorsements for horse racing and third-tier Internet service providers during every commercial break. This show, modeled after QVC, will feature Rome racking or running the clones as they give their takes on fast-food chains and income-tax services.

Once 790 got Matt Thomas in the lunch hour I quit listening to Rome completely. Rome started getting boring about 2-3 years ago. I used to love his show, but like everything, he changed over the years. His show became to formulaic - bag on the lousy callers, have a two segment love fest for whoever he interviewed - it all went over the top in the last few years. LIVE FROM LOS ANGELS THIS... PEACE OUT ROMIE...

Horrible decision by 610...Have know idea what they're thinking...How is meltz and davies going to draw a higher rating then Rome (no offense to "Mad Radio")...Gavin you're a joke and deserve to be made fun of by a sad perverted man-child...

Rome may have gotten dull over the years and not as edgy as he once was but he is/was still better than anything Sports Radio 610 has going. I have nothing but love for Rome but here are a few things that didn't help his cause - dissing then promoting horse racing, firing Travis Rodgers, doing JRIB, doing "more of me and less of you" and not kicking Jim Everett's you know what. Good night now!!!

KILT is looking at this the wrong way.  Rather than focusing on the ratings of the other three stations, the only thing they need to worry about is which of all the possible alternatives will draw the most listeners.  It may be possible that although NOTHING 610 can air during that time slot can outdraw the other three, Rome still could draw more ratings than any other option THEY have.

all of these are better alternatives than what 610 has elected to air

Even though Rome's always been dissin' on my fishin', the smack-off was HUGE!  Again, clones ... sad to say ... H-town's been thumped!  I'm pretty-friggin' sure Rome's scratchin' his dome wonderin' "What Up?"  Guess it goes with the territory, so deal with it ... OUT!

You forgot one:  "If the Texans has Drafted Vince Young.."   Actually this show plays frequently on all four sports talk stations in Houston.

Oh, and 610 - putting douche bag Davies in his slot isn't going to help your lousy ratings.

If you think rome is boring...Wait until football is over and all you have is Rockets and Astros talk....

Damn straight.  I had them on today long enough to hear them mock the Astros for hiring a "Director of Decision Sciences".  If they'd been to college longer than a semester they'd have known that meant they'd hired someone to head their computer analysis processes, which is something to be admired and not mocked.
