Carrie Kelly: Woman Gets Five Years for Child Porn

Carrie Kelly going away for five years.
It's unusual for a woman to be arrested in a child-porn investigation, and when Brazoria County's Carrie Kelly was picked up last April, some commenters predicted the charges would soon be dropped.

But Kelly entered a guilty plea for child-porn distribution, and yesterday she was sentenced to five years in prison, the U.S. Attorney's Office has announced. There will be 25 years of "supervised release" after she gets out.

Cops raided her house in April 2010 after tracing some child porn to her computer. "At that time, officers seized two Dell laptop computers," the USAO says. "A forensic exam was conducted and a total of 3368 images and 178 videos containing child pornography were located. Kelly admitted to being the one that was downloading child pornography from the Internet."

At the time, a later government press release said, "She said some of the pictures were of herself as a child and she did not know where the others came from."

"She said some of the pictures were of herself as a child and she did not know where the others came from."  What a freaking liar too.

She should have gotten life

And if she were a man, she would have gotten life.

Lizzie,

I respectfully disagree that had this been a man, he would've received life sentence. It seems as though these sick freaks get pathetically small sentences a lot of the times. I've seen cases where pedophiles receive mere probation. It's absolutely repugnant...our severely flawed so-called "justice" system. There needs to be serious changes within it.

Even if it were mandatory life for child pornographers/molesters (same disgusting difference) I say to hell with that. Put them to death because these sorry abhorrent excuses for human beings are incapable of rehabilitation.

I sgree with you 100% and to take it a step further i have to call into question a judge or a prosecutors thinking when they dont attempt to get these preditors off the street for life , as like minded people are lenient towards each other .. These people have a civil duty to remove these sick people from our streets for life all too often do you hear about a released or paroled sex offender omce again attacked a child any court officer that does not ask that a person that pleads gulity recieve life in prison should be looked into very closely if not removed for derelict of duty possable charged themselves .... For evil to succeed good men need do nothing

I also respectfully disagree. I'd like to see one example of someone pleading/convicted of possessing child pornography that got "mere probation".

The crime is serious and repugnant, but there is a danger with those that are seemingly rational that want an immediate death sentence for some that have not had due process.

JohnWayne,

Sorry, I didn't realize anyone had even replied so my response is probably moot at this point but I will give you a high profile example of someone who received only probation for molesting a child. Charles Albright, the Texas eyeball snatcher. It can and does happen.I really hope this doesn't come across as snarky, but I'm sure google can provide you with many other examples where a perpetrator received only probation.

Also, I'm not sure if your last sentence was directed towards me but I never said anything about an immediate death sentence without the accused having a trial and appeals process first. I don't think I have THAT much of a hangmans mentality ;) But I do believe the molestation of a child warrants death (with due process)
