Nominate Your 2011 Turkeys of the Year

Let the speculating and the nominating begin.
It's November, and that can mean a couple of things: Optimism still reigns about the Texans, the weather's bearable and it's time to start thinking about which local eminences should be named a Houston Press Turkey of the Year.

Once again we'll be anointing a chosen few to win the coveted honor, and of course one to rule them all as the Turkey of the Year.

Consider your votes carefully: You can peruse a highlight chart of past winners, or see all the stories we've done since beginning this tradition eight years ago.

The rules are flexible: generally there's a political and a sports turkey, but after that things get loose. So don't feel too penned in. Nominate anyone who you think truly deserves turkeydom, and then look for our results on November 24.

Who gets it for sports?

I'm sure there's some local parent who started a fight at a little league game.  But that's too mundane for an award.

Oh wait.  I got it.

David Gow.  Owner of KGOW, 1560 AM.  He turned the best radio station this city has seen in ages into the very "corporate pile of dung" they so often derided.  And he drove Lance Zierlein away in the process.

Hope those extra pieces of silver will fit into your River Oaks home, Mr. Gow.

I thought just this morning how Granato was certainly the Andrew Ridgely of that morning show former duo! Right before I changed the station

I'm tempted to go Ed Wade, but that's probably too easy.

Seriously, Michael Brown? He is an ass, but he has no power. He's just a common garden variety asshole. Nothing special about that. Michael McCaul, Rick Perry, there are actually too many to turkeys in politics to name them all.

Rick Perry--don't care if he's drunk OR gay (not that there's anything wrong with either); his legacy is still undermining public schools. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Seriously?  Rick Perry over Michael Brown?
